Job Description: Director, Research & Evaluation (2) Organization Overview The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools (“the Alliance”) is a national nonprofit organization committed to advancing the charter school movement. Our ultimate goal is to lead public education to unprecedented levels of high academic achievement for all students through the fostering of a strong charter sector. Position Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Knowledge & Partnerships, this director position will co-manage an innovative research and evaluation program that helps the Alliance obtain evidence about the efficacy of charter schools and its potential as a scalable reform solution; supervise and contribute to internal evaluation and data collection efforts; coordinate and contribute to external research and evaluation projects; and help to translate findings into organizational learning and policy recommendations. Responsibilities: • Partner with second Research Director to implement and periodically review a systemic research and evaluation program that supports the quality, growth, and sustainability goals of the charter sector; • Contribute to the Alliance's efforts to spur data-driven performance management in the charter sector through data compilation, synthesis (quantitative and qualitative), evaluation, and partnerships with external organizations; • Complete 2-3 high impact studies per year using the Alliance’s national charter school database; • Update the Alliance’s research synthesis of charter achievement on an annual basis; • Produce policy briefs, blogs, and reports that disseminate research findings; • Partner with second Research Director to design 2-3 commissioned research and evaluation studies per year; • Project manage 2-3 commissioned research and evaluation studies per year; • Commission and edit quarterly issue briefs; • Contribute to national dialogue on charter school research through attendance at national research conferences and participation in expert panels; • Perform duties as assigned associated with the Alliance’s annual conference; • Occasionally advise Charter Support Organizations (state associations and resource centers) on building their research capacity; and • Contribute to attaining the Alliance’s strategic goals. Qualifications: • Ph.D. or Ph.D. candidate from recognized program preferred; • Must have extensive skills in quantitative and qualitative educational research methodology; • Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of ongoing quantitative and qualitative research projects; • Demonstrated ability to produce high quality data analysis and commentary; • Significant knowledge of K-12 education policy; • Understanding of public charter schools and familiarity with essential issues in evaluating their performance; and • Strong project management skills.
