Under the supervision of the department director and deputy director, the associate will work in support of efforts to improve AFT members’ compensation through the collection of data, analysis of compensation levels and analyzing policy considerations. The associate will work in concert with other staff to synthesize these results into a appropriate format for presentation to AFT affiliates at the local and state level. In addition, the associate will have responsibility to establish and expand contacts with relevant government and private organizations to obtain data and information, and develop contacts within organized labor. • Analysis of collective bargaining proposals and labor agreements, as well as economic and fiscal demographic data. • Preparation and maintenance of salary surveys and analyses for AFT divisions and affiliates. • Preparation of salary comparisons for various occupations and levels of employment. • Preparation of data analysis and presentations on economic and demographic information affecting our members. • Assistance with the development and maintenance of tools for negotiators and local leaders related to bargaining and/or legislative and policy considerations related to compensation. • Identification, review and organization of employer financial documents to determine financial status. • Preparation of written articles or reports for publication by the AFT. • Presentations to AFT affiliates, staff and allied organizations based on data collection. • Serve as department representative at meetings and conferences. • Knowledge of compensation resources. • Good communication skills including both written and oral communication. • Experience collecting and analyzing data related to compensation, economic and demographic surveys, reports and databases, employer staffing and financial reports, and labor agreements. • Experience in the preparation of reports on education, public services and healthcare • A minimum of a bachelors degree in a related field. • Working knowledge of Excel and other statistical analysis tools to conduct analyses and prepare reports including the ability to create graphs of data in various formats. • Basic knowledge of the operations of the various institutions that employ AFT members. • Travel is required. • Prior work experience in a union environment is preferred. • Familiarity with AFT and/or its affiliates is considered a plus.
