The AEFA New Scholars Award is intended to interest masters, doctorial students and recent graduates, in conducting research in elementary, secondary, and higher education finance. Each year the AEFA sponsors research in support of promising new scholars, who wish to investigate significant issues in education finance.

The American Educational Research Association (AERA) provides AERA Grants, a program that provides small grants, fellowships, and training for researchers who conduct studies of education policy and practice, using quantitative methods. Grant program studies includes data analysis from the large-scale data sets sponsored by National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and the National Science Foundation (NSF).
